The athletics federation (IAAF) has awarded the World Championships 2023 to Budapest. The Hungarian capital was the only candidate.
President Sebastian Coe said earlier that the IAAF would like to keep the World Cup in Budapest. On Tuesday, the organization was officially assigned prior to the athletics gala.
The World Cup will be held in a new stadium that will host around 55,000 spectators. In 1966 and 1998 the European Championships took place in Budapest and in 1989 and 2004 the World Indoor Championships.
Next year the World Athletics Championships will take place in a refrigerated stadium in Qatar Doha. In 2021, the world titles are distributed in Eugene, Oregon in the United States.
